Purpose and features of a shipping container
A shipping container, also commonly called a cargo or freight container, are used to store and transport goods from one location to another by means of rail, road or sea. Shipping containers are made of corten steel, a high tensile anti-corrosion steel, that is not only strong but both secure and durable, capable of surviving extreme conditions. They all have double opening doors at one end with locking bars and catches. The steel units have timber flooring tested for a safe storage load of 24 – 30 tonne and air vents for air circulation.
They are also very secure and virtually vandal proof. For added security you can ask to have your shipping container installed with a lockbox to secure further your padlock from bolt cutters. There are three common standard lengths 10′ (3m), 20 ft (6.1 m), 40 ft (12.2 m) and 45 ft (13.7 m) and are the standard container height is 8’6″ (2.6m).
